About us

What we do

We map the corners of China that don’t make headlines.

Tiptoeing China uncovers the topics often missed by mainstream English world. We offer focused glimpses into complex stories—always grounded, always mapped.

We don’t shout. We show.

Mapping

China is vast. Mapping is how we make sense of it.

Every theme we cover begins with a map. It’s how we trace shifts, uncover patterns, and make the invisible visible. Whether it’s ports, policies, or cultural undercurrents, maps help us grasp the scale without losing the story.

Short pieces

We keep it short—on purpose.

Each article is around 500 words. Why? Because clarity demands restraint. We believe that if you truly understand something, you can explain it simply. Our short pieces are fast to read but built to last—giving readers sharp insight, not surface noise.

A letter for readers

We started Tiptoeing China with one simple belief:

No one truly understands China—but we can offer a glimpse.

In today’s world, where China’s policies, industries, and ambitions ripple far beyond its borders, the need to understand China has never been more urgent. Yet so much of what we read is either too distant, too biased, or too noisy. That’s where we come in.

Tiptoeing China (神州散闻) is a platform born out of curiosity and necessity.

We don’t pretend to have the whole picture—we offer the parts that matter, and map them carefully.

Each theme we explore becomes a small map: a way to trace movements, uncover structures, and reveal meaning over time.

We aim to serve those who feel the weight of China’s influence: business leaders, policy observers, students, and global thinkers who want context over chaos—and a map through complexity.

Do we cover a niche area? Yes and no. We delve deep into a topic every two weeks (hopefully), exploring what is happening, what will be affected, and what caused it. The reason why we we don’t only focus on one specefic niche area is China’s whole new nation system, which has been explained as

“a system concentrating nationwide effort and resources on key national undertakings”

Every part joined toegether, one part moves, the rest move too (can you help me think of a metophore on that?). Therefore, we cover topics widely, from technology to new comsuming trand to business.

But we still need something to hold on for every topic, and that is where the map come in. The initial idea is becuase we realized many people don’t have a basic pircture of china – that is understandable, if you never seen or been to somewhere, how can you imagine?

We believe a map (with photos) can help. It can give readers a picture what is like in China: why Hangzhou is the home of Alibaba, why Beijing can be the capital, why the east of China is economcy far behind… maps can better answer the question.

Also, people are busy, distratcion is easy. So we promoise, we keep everything short.

Now, let us wander in China together.
